Hand Drill Location: Pendola Pass Farm Route
Last updated: 2026-10-30
The Hand Drill is a Rare Topside Material worth 640 (weighs 0.5, stacks to 3) that spawns on Pendola Pass only. Three of them cover both the Outpost level 2 to 3 expansion (with 3 Epoxy Buckets and 35 Planks) and the Anvil I hand cannon recipe. The Laser Level spawns in exactly the same places, so you can farm both on one route.
Quick Facts
- Map: Pendola Pass only — a difficulty 3 of 5 map that unlocks after 25 rounds played.
- Best areas: Almatera Station, Cielo Sereno Observatory, Freight Terminal and Railyard.
- Search: shelves, train-car tables and seats, consoles and desks, or counters and tables.
- Loot type: Industrial and Mechanical.
- Loot zones: check the map at raid start — areas marked yellow (Loot value: Medium) roll better loot, and red ones (Loot value: High) more and better still. These zones change every raid.
- You need: 3 for the Outpost level 2 to 3 expansion, and 3 more for the Anvil I recipe.
Best Areas on Pendola Pass
These are the places with the most spawn spots where the Hand Drill can appear:
| Area | Spawn spots | What to search |
|---|---|---|
| Almatera Station | 304 | Shelf room, train car seats |
| Cielo Sereno Observatory | 208 | Industrial containers, ground |
| Freight Terminal | 181 | Train car tables |
| Railyard | 110 | Lockers, train cars |
| Controlled Receiving Facility | 109 | Surfaces, containers |
Spots are only chances — every spot can roll many other items too, so treat this as a route plan, not a guarantee.
What Kind of Places to Search
Most spawn spots are loose loot lying out in the open, so look at surfaces as you move through a building. Containers (cabinets, desks, bags, breachable boxes) can hold it as well. Share of all spawn spots on Pendola Pass:
| Where | Share of spots |
|---|---|
| Shelves and storage racks | 26% |
| Train cars: tables and seats | 22% |
| Consoles, desks and control panels | 12% |
| Tables, chairs and counters | 12% |
| Trolleys and carts | 9% |
| Parked vehicles | 7% |
Containers that hand out one Hand Drill per stack: the Industrial Crate (needs an Industrial Breach to open), Lockers, the Shipping Container Drawer, and the Tool Trolley. Backpacks, suitcases, wooden crates and breachable metal boxes in industrial buildings have also turned up Hand Drills.
Almatera Station Shelf Room
The best single room for Frozen Trail materials is on the second floor of Almatera Station, inside the station building. Walk in through the main entrance, take the escalators up, and the room full of metal shelves is right at the top. Walk every row and look at each shelf.
On a raid where Almatera Station was a red zone (Loot value: High), those shelves alone produced a Radial Press, Laser Level, Insulation Roll, Thermal Shaker, Hand Drill, Steel Cable and Sheet Metal. As a yellow zone (Medium), the same room still gave a Radial Press, Hand Drill and Calculator. Don’t stop at the shelf room: Hand Drills also show up under the metal staircase, on store display shelves, and in open refrigeration racks inside the station.
Railyard Lockers and Train Cars
Start on the upper platform of the Railyard (a threat level 1 area carrying Mechanical and Industrial loot). The small lobby room just south of the yard has a row of green lockers. Not every locker holds loot, but finding two Hand Drills in one visit is common, and Steel Cables often turn up too. Shoot the small camera outside the locker room before you go in so it doesn’t pull ARC onto you, and expect a Tick nearby.
Take the nearby stairs down to the tracks, where three decommissioned train cars are parked. Check the tables and chairs inside each car and open the suitcases on the floor. The passenger cars by the Freight Terminal work the same way.
Storm Huts
Storm Huts (Avalanche Shelters) only open while a Flash Freeze is active, and an open one appears on your map. Head for the closest hut — if it is on the far side of the map, other players will probably get there first. Inside, loot the wooden crates and the shelf at the back. The bunker near Railroad Junction is a reliable example, with a Hand Drill often sitting on a metal shelf under a lamp.
Farming Route for a Full Stack
- Deploy into Pendola Pass and check the map for yellow and red loot zones before you move. Plan the shortest path from your spawn to Almatera Station or the Railyard.
- Clear the train cars at whichever of the two areas is closer. Check every seat and table corner, and stop at each pickup highlight.
- Sweep the indoor spot for that area: the escalator shelf room at Almatera Station, or the green lockers in the lobby above the tracks at the Railyard.
- Move to Storm Huts once a Flash Freeze hits. Loot the crates and the back shelf of any open hut close to you.
- Move every Hand Drill into your Safe Pocket immediately after finding it. At 0.5 per drill, three fit in a small amount of space, and a death before extraction won’t cost them.
- Extract and bank the drills in your stash. If you came up short, run the same route on your next raid.
What the Hand Drill Is Used For
Two recipes ask for exactly three Hand Drills — one full stack.
| Use | Hand Drills | Other requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Outpost level 2 to 3 | 3 | 3 Epoxy Buckets, 35 Planks |
| Anvil I (Gunsmith 1) | 3 | 2 Advanced Mechanical Components, 3 Heavy Gun Parts, Anvil Blueprint |
The Anvil is a Rare Heavy-Ammo hand cannon: six rounds in the magazine, one mod slot, upgrade tiers from I through IV, and the Anvil Splitter and X-Rounds amplification upgrades.
Hold on to spares. Recycling a Hand Drill returns 1 Mechanical Components, and salvaging one gives 2 Metal Parts — both outputs are far easier to find than the drill itself, so only break down extras beyond the three you need for your next craft. No furniture recipe uses Hand Drill.
