Bullies Location: Where to Find Bullies

Last updated: 2026-10-30

The Bully is a mid-size ARC machine introduced with the Frozen Trail update — an aggressive, elephant-sized pursuer that hears you, bellows, and charges across the snow faster than anything its size should move. You will have to deal with it eventually: the Outpost project asks for roughly 300 damage against one, the Tracks of the Beast quest has you ping one, and the Bully Fragmenter it drops is required to upgrade the Research Station.

  • Map: Pendola Pass only (for now) — 8 patrol spawn sites.
  • Threat class: Heavy, 4th toughest of 24 ARC units.
  • Detection: spots you from 150 m, loses you beyond 200 m, 220-degree field of view.
  • Drops: Bully Fragmenter (Epic), ARC Alloy, ARC Powercell; lootable parts are Frame, Head and Legs.

Where Bullies Spawn

Bullies are not on every map — at launch they spawn exclusively on Pendola Pass. There is no fixed pin; the Bully patrols rather than camping a single building. Reported sighting clusters:

  • Open valleys and wide snowfields between points of interest.
  • Near the Fallen Emperor, with one sighting cluster to its east.
  • Around both sides of the Commissary Supermarket.
  • The Northern Tracks area, which the Tracks of the Beast quest sends you through.

A Bastion sometimes spawns in a Bully slot instead, so a quiet valley is never a guarantee. Bullies frequently arrive as a pair, and in later raids they have been seen patrolling alongside groups of Skulkers.

Tip: use your ears. A patroling Bully makes a heavy gallop across open snow that carries a long distance — nothing else on the map sounds like it. When it locks on, a screeching horn-like cry means it is already coming. Stop sprinting through the valleys and listen if you have not found one in several raids.

Two pieces of content reliably put you in front of one:

  • Outpost project, Stage 3 — Safeguard the Building Site: requires damage to flying ARC plus roughly 300 damage to a Bully. You need damage, not a kill.
  • Tracks of the Beast (Shani quest): visit the Northern Tracks and Almatera Station, ping a Bully and a Skulker, and optionally deliver loot. Rewards include 5,000 XP, three Showstoppers, a Grappling Hook, and an extra Wolfpack if you bring back a Skulker Targeter.

How the Bully Fights

It moves on four long gangly legs, crosses rough terrain like a Leaper, charges in a straight line, rolls sideways, and frequently overshoots — the turn-back after an overshoot takes about 4 seconds, and that window is your free damage. Even wounded or missing a limb, it stays very fast, and it can split its attention between two players.

AttackRangeWhat to Do
Cluster grenade100–200 mSplits into smaller explosives that come through windows and flimsy doorways — get into deeper rooms
Shotgun salvoClose range1.5–2 second laser warning, then a tight, repeating scatter blast — this is the attack that kills; two or three hits in the open ends a Raider in blue shields
Minigun-style burstAs it closes inSustained fire from the mounted gun — only safe behind hard cover

The Three Weak Points

Spraying the armored torso wastes your ammo. Focus here:

  1. Yellow leg joints — each of the four legs carries a yellow joint, less shielded than Queen or Bombardier plating. Hammer one joint to dismember the leg; have the whole squad focus a single joint instead of spreading damage. The catch is tracking: it rarely stops moving.
  2. Mounted cannon — strip the armor off the head housing and a yellow weak point appears on the main gun. Destroy it and the Bully keeps charging but can no longer hurt you.
  3. Exposed mouth before firing — the half-second before it shoots, its head opens to reveal two yellow canisters. Land a shot there to cancel the attack and leave it immobile for several seconds.

Positioning matters as much as aim: fight near hard cover or not at all. A building or narrow lane kills its speed — it cannot roll sideways or overshoot when boxed into a corridor. Keep something solid between you and the scatter gun, then step out between salvos.

Weapons and Gadgets

  • Hullcracker — the community’s go-to pick; joint hits during a tether pin do serious damage.
  • Aphelion — came out on top among legendary energy weapons: five-shot magazine, two beams per half-second interval, lines up perfectly with the mouth-opening window, and it is the only legendary that accepts attachments. Never reload before the magazine hits zero or you waste the battery.
  • Jupiter and Equalizer — strong on paper, but both need a target that holds still; they work far better once the Bully is tethered or stalled.
  • Precision rifles (Renegade, Osprey, scoped amplified Renegade) do well tracking joints from mid range. Shotguns and fast SMGs are poor picks.
  • Tether Launcher — tether a leg right before the shotgun burst (not while running); a squad tethering together can nearly lock it in place.
  • Showstopper — stalls its erratic movement so you can line up joint shots.
  • Deadline — two Deadlines kill a Bully; pair one with Photocloak and a tether pin so it stays on the blast.
  • Wolfpack — effective but expensive: three did not finish one, budget four.

The clean kill loop: hear the gallop and set up at a building edge or lane → open on a single leg joint, let it overshoot, and hit the same joint during the 4-second turn-back → duck cover when the charging laser lights up (or shoot the open mouth to cancel) → pin it with a tether or Showstopper and drop Hullcracker rounds, a Snap Blast, or a Deadline under it → repeat until the legs come off. Watch for a second Bully or a Skulker pack nearby.

Loot: the Bully Fragmenter

A dead Bully shatters into a pile of lootable parts rather than one container. Search order: main body and broken core first, then the gun housing — those two pieces give the best chance at the Fragmenter; the limbs do not carry it.

  • Bully Fragmenter — Epic-tier item, literally the cluster grenade the Bully was throwing. Thrown, it splits into eight explosions dealing roughly 40 damage each in a 5-meter radius. Best in a tight room or under a stationary target like a Bastion; wasted across open snow. Expect about one per Bully.
  • Why you farm it — Fragmenters are required to upgrade the Research Station from level 3 (and for a new quest). Stock up over several raids if you are pushing Amplified Research.
  • Main body — shotgun shells and grenade launcher ammo alongside the Fragmenter.
  • Legs and limbs — Mechanical Components, ARC Alloy, and assorted ARC parts.
Tip: the easy alternative. If fighting a Bully sounds risky, breach fallen ARC Carriers on any map (reported on Dam Battlegrounds, The Blue Gate and Spaceport) — they can drop a Bully Fragmenter or a Vaporizer Regulator, depending on luck. Raiders who have killed Bullies recommend taking six Trailblazers along for the fight route.

Big ARC fights are loud and attract company: grab the body and gun pieces first, then the limbs if the area stays quiet. ARC destruction assists are shared, so a random who helped you drop it may reach the same pile.
